I’m not perfect. Far from it. I have said and done things in the past that I didn’t realize could hurt, offend, and further oppress communities I stand in support of.
That being said, we are human and part of that experience is learning and growing and doing better for our future.
Tehchnology has been able to recently shine a spotlight on the injustices too many of our friends have been facing for hundreds of years.
Individual and institutional racism are very real and incredibly active parts of our society.
This isn’t new and to act like your shocked it still happens only downplays the struggle black people have been actively voicing and fighting for since long before you or I entered this world.
If you’re at all like me, you currently find yourself trying to navigate to find a way to help without stepping on the toes of the community you’re fighting for.
It’s become apparent to me that muting my own voice is important to give power to the voices we’ve ignorantly been leaving behind.
I believe love and compassion are a big part of the answer. Education plays a greater role though. If we ignore the past we can’t possibly work towards a better future.
